Jim Benson: Comeback Champion of the Month
Jim Benson has lived a very active life - from youth sports in the Chicago area, football at The University of Kentucky, owning his own fitness center (Snap Fitness - Veterans Park), and more recently competitive weightlifting. While playing some pick-up basketball, Jim went for a layup and felt a blow to his calf. Knowing right away what the injury was, he called his friend, Cheslee Bloyd, a Physician Assistant at Bluegrass Orthopaedics. Many of his friends tried to soften the blow, but Jim knew what was ahead of him - his father tore both of his Achilles tendons!
After a quick diagnosis, Jim had his Achilles repaired by Dr. Jason Harrod, foot and ankle specialist at BGO, on January 25th and began physical therapy a month later. With access to the AlterG Anti-Gravity Treadmill, Jim was able to begin walking, unrestricted, at 6 weeks post-op at 20% of his body weight… and was running at 15 weeks post-op. This would not be possible without access to this state-of-the-art treadmill. "With the guidance I received from Dr. Harrod and the physical therapy staff at BGO, I was able to return to my weightlifting much faster than I would have otherwise."
Here's a video that was done at 16 weeks after his surgery!
Congratulations on a great recovery Jim! Next time you swing by Veterans Park, stop in and see Jim at Snap Fitness!
