What Are The Benefits of Total Joint Replacement?

Total joint replacement offers numerous benefits for individuals with chronic joint pain and impaired mobility. Here are some of the key advantages:

Significant Pain Relief: One of the primary benefits of joint replacement surgery is the substantial reduction or complete elimination of joint pain. This can lead to a significant improvement in quality of life, allowing patients to engage in activities that were previously too painful.

Improved Mobility and Joint Function: Joint replacement can restore movement and function to the affected joint, enabling patients to move more freely and perform daily activities with greater ease and less discomfort. This can be particularly transformative for individuals with severe arthritis or joint damage.

Enhanced Quality of Life: With reduced pain and improved mobility, patients often experience an overall enhancement in their quality of life. They can return to hobbies, work, and social activities that they might have avoided due to joint pain.

Increased Independence: Regaining mobility and reducing pain can help patients regain their independence. This is especially important for elderly patients who wish to remain active and self-sufficient.

Long-Term Durability: Modern joint replacements are designed to last many years, providing long-term relief and functionality. Advances in surgical techniques and materials have significantly improved the lifespan and performance of joint implants.

Better Physical Health: Improved joint function can lead to better overall physical health. Patients can often increase their physical activity levels, which can have additional health benefits such as weight management, improved cardiovascular health, and enhanced mental well-being.

Psychological Benefits: The reduction in chronic pain and the ability to return to normal activities can also have positive psychological effects, including reduced stress, anxiety, and depression, leading to an overall improvement in mental health.

Total joint replacement is a highly effective solution for individuals suffering from severe joint pain and disability. Restoring joint function and alleviating pain enables patients to enjoy a more active, independent, and fulfilling life.

Am I a Good Candidate for Total Joint Replacement?

Individuals who might be good candidates for total joint replacement typically include those who:

  • Suffer from severe joint pain and stiffness
  • Experience decreased mobility and function
  • Have not found relief from conservative treatments such as physical therapy, medications, or injections
  • Wish to return to a more active lifestyle

If you fall into any of these categories, consulting with our specialists can help determine the best action for your joint health.

Joe Duff

Bluegrass Orthopaedics is proud to acknowledge our Comeback Champion - Mr. Joe Duff. Mr. Duff has been active his entire life, including competing in water skiing events! He is a spry 86 year old and wanted to be sure to get out on the lake this summer. He had injections in the past with some benefit, but he was determined to live an active lifestyle, and a knee replacement would be needed to ensure that.

My initial visit was to schedule surgery. He explained to me that there was another option, Xiaflex injections. He explained the procedure and the success rate. His assistant, Deana Price started the process with my insurance. After 14 visits and 8 procedures, my hands are fully functional! I was in the exam room at my scheduled times. I have and will continue to recommend him. Thank You Dr WLO!

He is so knowledgeable and personable to boot! I have a history of blood clots and even though I tried to talk him into just taking aspirin after surgery, he insisted on my taking Eliquis. Good thing, because even on that RX, I began to develop a clot in my leg. He responded appropriately and I won’t argue with him again! He was100% right! I highly recommend him!

Another physician in her practice insisted I did not have a torn rotator cuff, because it was not visible on the MRI. He grew frustrated with my continued pain and immobility and referred me to her. She felt that I did have a tear and actually found two during the surgery. She listens carefully, retains your information and keeps careful notes. I have complete confidence in her abilities.
