Marilyn Hoffman-Elrod: Comeback Champion
“I’m ready for whatever’s next!” says this month’s BGO Comeback Champion, Marilyn Hoffman-Elrod. Being an active individual, Marilyn was at the end of her rope. As she stated, “After several years of cortisone shots, they were becoming less and less effective. That’s all I had to say to (physician assistant) Evan Henson to get the ball rolling for my two knee replacements.”
Ms. Hoffman-Elrod had her two knee replacements done in May and June respectively, both done by Dr. Christensen at the BGO Specialty Surgery Center. She has this to say about her recovery: “Nurse Brandy had me walking within what seemed like minutes after arriving in recovery, and I was thrilled to go home the same day. Physical Therapist Chris Bagbey came to my house to start my rehab right away and I later continued rehab at BGO’s outpatient PT clinic with Bethany Crisp. It sounds cliche and corny, but my only regret is not doing the surgery sooner. I feel better than I have in years, and I can now walk without pain, I am working out again, and I even mowed my yard for the first time in a year. There aren’t enough nice things to say about Bluegrass Orthopaedics.”
It’s always great to hear stories like these from our patients – best of luck to Marilyn!
Dr. Christensen earned his medical degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in 1992. He went on to complete his postgraduate residency training in orthopaedic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC. He then performed a hip and knee adult reconstruction fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston from 1998 to 2003. He moved to Lexington in 2003, and joined BGO in 2016.
