Nicholas Hawes: Comeback Champion of the Month
Bluegrass Orthopaedics is extremely honored to acknowledge our latest “Comeback Champion” – Nicholas Hawes. Nicholas is a 6 year old boy who was diagnosed with a rare genetic condition called MPS 1 Hurler Syndrome. Nicholas’ body does not make a specific enzyme to breakdown large sugar molecules which then build up in his organs and bones. He had a bone marrow transplant when he was just 18 months old and has endured so much over the last 5 years. One day, while out being a typical rambunctious boy, he fell and caught himself resulting in a broken humerus. Nicholas came in to see Physician Assistant Cheslee Bloyd, and thankfully has made a great recovery.
Nicholas likes to ride his Power Wheel motorcycle, play with his hot wheels, and play video games with his Dad and Sister.
Nicholas is a true testament of what it means to be a “Champion”!
